Join us as we explore Indonesia, an ancient land of fire and myths...
We invite you to come along with us on a 12 Day 4-wheeled vehicle road trip across the islands of Java and Bali in Indonesia. On this adventure, you will experience:
- 6 Major Volcanoes - Including the chance to look into the crater of two active ones!
- 8 Ancient Buddhist and Hindu Temples - Including Borobudur, the largest Buddhist temple in the world.
- 3 Massive Waterfalls - Including Java's tallest, as well as Tumpak Sewu (known as "A Thousand Waterfalls")
- 3 Stunning Beaches - This includes two full days that can be spent entirely on the beach.
- The Ramayana Ballet - A traditional Indonesian dance performance.
- Blue Fire Lava - A natural wonder found nowhere else on earth.
- 4x4 Jeep Volcanic Sand Excursion - These jeeps will take us through Mt Bromo's infamous Sea of Sand.

We will mostly be traveling together overland via air-conditioned van, but this journey also includes one flight, one train ride, a ferry, a 4x4 jeep experience, and optional rides in a pontoon boat, on a horse, and on the back of a motorcycle!
This tour is best suited for people who love culture, history, and nature, as well as the camaraderie of fellow travelers. It does have some challenging hikes, but they can be skipped. We will also be staying one night at an altitude of 8,000 feet (2,400 meters). Let us know in the Contact Form of your hiking skill level and any concerns about altitude.

Itinerary
Day 1 - Arrive in Bali - We call this day your "Ticket to Paradise," and today we will meet, greet, and dine.
|
Day 2 - Balinese Dream - We'll explore the rugged coastline of southern Bali, including Uluwatu Temple perched on dramatic seaside cliffs.
Day 3 - Discovering the Heart of Indonesia - We fly to Yogyakarta on Java, then hop in a van that will take us to a traditional Javanese village surrounded by rice paddies. We will have dinner watching the sun set over nearby Borobudur temple. |

Day 4 - Reaching Enlightenment - We spend the morning ascending Borobudur, the largest Buddhist temple on earth. Then in the afternoon, we will explore some of the hidden gems of the village, including having a chance to try "cat poop coffee."
Day 5 - Monuments to the Gods - We head back to Yogyakarta where we will visit Prambanan, an awe-inspiring ancient Hindu temple complex. The night will end with a traditional Indonesian ballet. |

Day 6 - The Jungles of Java - We take a 4 hour train ride to Surabaya, passing active Merapi Volcano and some idyllic countryside. From Surabaya, we'll hop in 4x4 jeeps to surmount the outer crater of Mt. Bromo, stopping by Madakaripura Falls along the way.
Day 7 - Looking into the Crater - After watching the sunrise over Mt. Bromo, we'll hike the steps to the active volcano's rim. Then back in the jeeps, we'll venture across the Sea of Sand, and reach of view of Tumpak Sewu Falls at sundown. |

Day 8 - Land of a Thousand Waterfalls - We spend the morning exploring the magnificent sight of Tumpak Sewu Falls with active Mount Semeru behind it. Then after stopping for a a brief panorama view of Kapas Biru Falls, we journey in the van to the slopes of active Ijen Volcano in East Java.
Day 9 - Into the Volcano of Blue Fire - In order to see the blue fire of Ijen Volcano, we have to wake up in the night and start hiking the volcano in darkness. |

Then with a gas mask on (sulfuric fumes), we descend into the crater to witness a natural wonder that can be found nowhere else on earth. In the afternoon, we'll take the ferry to Bali and end the day on the beaches of Lovina.
Day 10 - Dolphin Day! - Today we'll be staying all day at the lovely beaches of Lovina, Bali. This area is famous for its dolphin sightings (choose to take a boat trip to see them in the morning), or just hang out at the beach, pool, or spa. After all those adventures we just had, you deserve it!

Day 11 - The Holy Temples of Bali - From Northern Bali, we take a van across the island, visiting viewpoints, as well as Besakih "Mother" Temple, and we end the day with the Sacred Monkey Forest in Ubud.
Day 12 - Departure Day - We do some last-minute souvenir shopping in Ubud, and say our sad goodbyes as we all head in different directions. But even though this trip may be over, we will always carry with us the memories of our incredible experience together. |
