What's Included in the Jungle Warriors Tour
All Hotels
Of course, all of the accommodations are included in this tour. And if you look at the Itinerary, you will see that they are fabulous! Every single one comes with air-conditioning and hot showers, except for one night stay near the Tip of Borneo that is right on the beach. It's rustic, but Tim and I think you will love it because it is so authentic, traditional, and unique. It gives a true feeling for Borneo. This is that rustic beachside villa. For more details on it, see our trip itinerary for Day 2 - Welcome to the Jungle.

Some Meals
You're going to love the food in Malaysia! Everyone does. Plus, we've included the following meals in our tour:
*Drinks after breakfast are not included, as well as any beer or alcohol anytime. Questions about dietary restrictions can be found on our FAQ page. |
Rental Motorcycle
Your rental motorcycle is included with the tour, of course! All of the motorcycles listed HERE come with the tour package, there is no extra fee for different models. Local basic insurance is also included in the price. Support Vehicle It's an 18 seater van, so plenty of room for all our luggage. 1 Flight from Sandakan to Kota Kinabalu Although your flights to and from Malaysia are not covered, we'll be dropping off the bikes and flying back to where we started in Kota Kinabalu on Day 9, and that flight is included in the tour price. All Transport between Day 1 to Day 10 We will pick you up at the airport on arrival day and drop you off on departure day. And all the transport in between is covered, along with any tolls - actually, motorcycles don't pay tolls in Malaysia! AWESOME! Tim and Marisa as Guides Yup, you get us as guides throughout. I mean, I might be biased, but I think we're fun to travel with... |
All Park Fees, Entrance Tickets
We're going to visit tons of cool places, and it's all part of the tour price. This includes Mahua Falls, Sosodikon Hill, Proboscis Monkey Reserve, Sepilok Orang-Utan Rehabilitation Centre, Gomantong Caves, and the Sandakan Rainforest Discovery Centre. All Excursions We will also be going on some fun excursions, like an indigenous longhouse visit, a jungle night walk, a snorkeling trip, and guided riverboat safaris. They are all included in the tour price. Similarly, when we go snorkeling near Kudat, your snorkel equipment will be covered. |
All Tips for Local Guides
Tim is a firm believer in tipping people well when they do a good job, and our money goes a long way out here. So we like to pay it back to the local communities that welcome us to their home countries by tipping wait staff, cooks, guides, drivers, and anyone else who assists us along the way. Although you can always add tips to what we give, you can rest assured that at no point will you be pressured to tip on top of what you've already spent. |
Satellite Phone with S.O.S. and Tracking
We always carry our Garmin Inreach with us no matter where we go. So we can send messages out, or an S.O.S. in an emergency from anywhere. And while we're on the subject of safety, I'm going to get re-certified in First Aid!

Visa Assistance
Malaysian visas are usually easy. But we'll help you through the new online process. Any visa fees are not included (there shouldn't be any for Americans). Documentary Video! And best of all, we'll be making a video of our journey through Borneo together! Won't it be great to come back home and relive your adventure on your own TV screen? If you are camera shy, you do not have to participate in the testimonial section, but you can still watch the awesome drone footage of you riding along the beach... |
What's Not Included
Airfare to and from Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia
You are responsible for getting to and from the city of Kota Kinabalu. We recommend coming to the region a few days early if you can. It is not a necessity, but jet lag can be tough. More on that - FAQ. Visa Fees There may not be any, and like we said above, we'll help you with the online process. |
Personal Travel Insurance
This is not required, but it's highly recommended. Please be aware that many travel insurance companies do not cover motorcycle accidents abroad. Some Meals We will be covering most breakfasts and some lunches and dinners, but if it wasn't stated in the included meals section above, then it's not covered. That being said, food in East Malaysia is super affordable and delicious. We're definitely going to be eating like royalty. Questions about dietary restrictions and other food concerns can be found on our FAQ page. Alcoholic Drinks and Specialty Beverages Yes, Malaysia is a Muslim country, but they still serve alcohol at many tourist locations. More on that - FAQ. |
Snacks and Souvenirs
Save room in your luggage for awesome souvenirs!

IMPORTANT - Helmets are not included! (along with other motorcycle gear)
I know that flying with helmets is no fun, but you're really going to want to bring your own helmet for this trip. That's because the helmets here in Southeast Asia are small (they may not fit you), and they are possibly not up to your standards. We want you to be comfortable and safe. Plus if you bring your own helmet, you can have your Cardo or Sena with you for listening to music! |
Motorcycle jackets, pants, boots, gloves, and rain gear are also not included. Please bring your own motorcycle gear, and please make sure it is for hot weather only (mesh gear). No need for goretex here (you might boil inside it like a lobster)!
Rain gear is excellent to have, because when it rains on Borneo, it pours. Just make sure it is a removable jacket and pants (it's simply too hot otherwise). Cheap plastic works great. We have a packing list for you below. Fuel And finally, gasoline while on the road is not included. Most Malaysian gas stations are self serve and take credit cards. |
Packing List
We have quite a bit of experience riding around these parts. So these are our recommendations for what to pack -

Clothes & Toiletries
Note - If you are not going to be washing your underwear, socks, or shirts in the sinks like we often do (it may or may not dry by morning, but in the tropics, that doesn't much matter), then we suggest packing enough of these items for the whole trip.
- Light Clothes for Riding - Moisture-wicking, quick-drying fabrics are great for the heat.
- Comfortable Clothes for After Riding - Shorts, T-shirts, even summer dresses... You're on vacation!
- Walking Shoes - Something comfortable and airy, a sandal-type walking shoe is what we like best.
- Flip Flops - Not really necessary if you have good walking sandals, but you might find it nice to have.
- Light Socks for Riding - I wash mine every night in the sink! Something that dries quick is best.
- Swimsuit
- Travel Towel
- Sunscreen - My advice is to bring something powerful.
- Bug Spray - It's the jungle...
- Sun Hat - Borneo is on the equator, and the sun is intense. We always go out in a brimmed hat.
- Light Jacket - For when we go by Mount Kinabalu, it legitimately gets chilly! (It might just be me though...)
- If you have a nice rain jacket for riding, this might work just fine for the cold too.
- Toothbrush, Soap, Shampoo, & Other Toiletries - DEODORANT! That's all I got to say.
- Prescriptions
- Pain Killers, Allergy Meds, Antacid, Imodium, etc. - Not all of these are easily available out here. We've never known anyone to get sick from the food here, but it's not a bad idea to prepare for anything.
- Toilet Paper, Wet Wipes - Many bathrooms in Malaysia are a bit "rustic," and it's not unusual for there to be no toilet paper. It's best to bring your own.
Note - If you are not going to be washing your underwear, socks, or shirts in the sinks like we often do (it may or may not dry by morning, but in the tropics, that doesn't much matter), then we suggest packing enough of these items for the whole trip.
Other Items
This list is by no means comprehensive, but in general, people often think they need more things than they end up using. So I hope this helps you narrow things down a bit! |
