Though it was impossible for the white-run Rhodesian government to hide the impressive stone ruins of Great Zimbabwe, they didn’t need to. They would simply shun and deport any archeologist who claimed the structures were African-made. This happened even into the 1970’s.

Instead, they proposed outlandish theories that this advanced civilization which commanded legions in the thousands, and presided over a trade network reaching China, was founded by Ancient Egyptians, Biblical figures, or even aliens. But not black Africans.
Times have changed, but we still don’t see African history as we should. Even today, the only stories you hear coming out of Africa are ones of oppression, poverty, genocide, or slavery. |
